About Fred I was living in New York for eight years. In our house there was a blue room—very blue indeed. Painted by the people who were living there before we did. It was in that room that I first started playing my Sam Ash rented acoustic piano. A little late to get started I guess. I had always and only played the drums—but the neighbours weren't cool with that so I decided to give the keyboards a shot. I quickly concluded that I would never become a concert pianist, but really enjoyed writing songs. During a 3-year period I ended up writing something like 40 or 50 songs. Most in the "blue room"—quite a few on subsequent addresses throughout New York City. All of them at the time were recorded on a 4 track cassette "porta-studio." And then I stopped. Like many people in similar situations "work" got the upper hand—for years I ended up working my brains out, never allowing myself any time to do what I enjoy most—writing and recording music. So then, one year ago, I said stop. I can't deal with this idea of unfinished business. So I went back to the tapes from the blue room—dusty and hard to decipher—but still there. The idea developed to take a selection of songs and to record them after all these years as yet—and do it right. A little late allright, but hell why not? Not at all intended to conquer the world, but simply for the fun of doing it and "for the record" so to say. I love these songs and I hope other people will too. Enough so that I can legitimise recording a follow up album. This time around though not by leaving a window of so many years between the writing and the recording. That would be pushing it.
